My 1st golden was a female out of Tonya Struble’s BIS Champion Alderbrookes Rush Hill Rebel. Tonya was showing at Fort St John dog shows in May 1986 where I was showing my Rebel daughter as a senior puppy and finishing her CD. She was on her way to Washington from home in Alaska. At the Fort St John shows Tonya was very helpful with grooming & handling tips & info regarding pedigrees. During the weekend after observing her dogs being shown and checking pedigrees I asked if she had any breedings planned to Rebel with an American Champion female because I wanted a female out of Rebel with a stronger show pedigree. She told me that she would keep in contact and let me know. Tonya contacted me later that year to let me know that she was planning a breeding to Rebel with an American Champion True Bear line bred female and 3rd pick female was available from the planned litter. After the breeding I anxiously waited for whelp date hoping that there would be at least 3 females. As it turned out there was 8 females in the litter so based on Tonya’s recommendation and review of puppy pictures “Peaches” was shipped to me.

Soon after “Peaches” arrived it was very apparent that she had the stronger confirmation I had been looking for in a Rebel daughter. She also had a “look at me” show attitude & a voracious appetite for food of any type that she could get into. Peaches finished her Canadian Championship as a puppy with multiple Best Puppy In Show wins and finished off puppy show career with Best Puppy at Golden Retriever Club of BC Specialty. Her multiple Best Puppy in Show wins allowed her to win 1988 Golden Retriever Club Of Canada Top Show Puppy award.

Next up for Peaches was work on Obedience titles and American Championship. She was able to finish her American Championship at two years of age after winners bitch win at Norcal Golden Specialty. At 24 months of age Peaches won Best Of Breed at 1989 Golden Retriever Club Of Canada National Specialty. This was a very special win for me and even better the next day when her dad Rebel won Best Of Breed at the Golden Retriever Club Of BC Specialty. Peaches finished her CD title easily before she was two and finished her CDX title before she was three after taking a break from showing.

Peaches had a very strong retrieving instinct and loved swimming. She still has the record for longest jumps into water of all my dogs. We lived on a major flyway for ducks and geese so I had easy access for hunting opportunities. She was a very birdy & reliable hunting dog who would never tire during long days in the field or shooting over water. Her competitiveness for retrieving would come out anytime a ball was thrown and she would often bloody her nose diving for tennis balls after chasing with other dogs trying to get ball before others.

Peaches had several nice litters and qualified as an outstanding dam. She produced several American Champions in addition to numerous Canadian Champions.

In retirement Peaches was Queen of the house and companion for our kids. She was very gentle and more than happy to be a pillow for babies to lean against then as kids grew they figured out very early that Peaches would play all day long with them retrieving whatever they would throw for her.

Peaches never did lose her insatiable appetite and our kids and their friends learned very fast to hold any food they were holding as high as they could or Peaches would gently snatch the food from their hands. Her appetite led to her wandering occasionally and one time my in-laws were looking after her and she wandered. My mother-in-law called my wife and asked if Peaches wanders and Pam said not usually and Craig would be very concerned. My father in-law was sent out to search for Peaches and returned shortly after with a golden in the truck. My mother-in-law told him that wasn’t Peaches (great example of how golden will go with anyone). Father in-law returned wrong golden to where he picked up and continued search for Peaches. She was found a few doors down in a back yard and had found a partially eaten corn cob from a recent barbeque and trying to swallow whole. We were fortunate to have Peaches in our lives for almost 15  years and fondly remember my “Princess” and laugh often while enjoying memories.
