So lucky to have a “Dragon” that continues to add pages and pages to the storybook! Well….make that a Dragonfly! So as the story goes, Dragonfly was my first dog that I attempted anything…yes I mean anything in the field. I would go to training with gloves on…not because it was cold…I just didn’t want to touch the bird!! When we were on the line, sending her by name, it just went on for…ev…er! So…..Dragon it became! It didn’t come easy for either of us! She definitely had the hunt instinct but with a I want to do it my way attitude! It didn’t help she was my first dog I was training (or being trained!) so we both had a steep learning curve! (Thank you Conway Kennels!!!) Dragon received her WC at the 2021 GRCA National Specialty in Ocala, Florida with Tonya running her. She completed her JH in the fall of 2021 traveling to the East Coast to get that one last test needed since there were no shows on the West Coast and racing against “mother nature”.  What a cliff hanger ending to that chapter!!

Dragon definitely liked to close out chapters in style! She completed her CH earning a 5 point major/BOW at the Golden Retriever Club of Los Angeles under judge Debbie Claussen during an always competitive Palm Springs Circuit. She decided to add another page to her book, Best in Specialty winner, Inland Empire Specialty 2, under Judge Ken Matthew in the fall of 2022 and finished her GCH that same week end.  Another chapter complete!

With both the GCH and JH/WC titles behind her, it was now time for some new chapters and to see if we could have those chapters merge! Oh…..and they did! Dragon was awarded Gundog Group 1 at the Rainier Sporting Dog Association Summers under Judge Pluis Davern in Aug 2023. Then onward to the 2023 GRCA National Specialty held in Albany Oregon, where judge Alison Webb awarded her Best Opposite in the Gundog Sweepstakes.  And she wasn’t done writing her fairy tale….Dragon was awarded a Judges Award of Merit under judge Michael Faulkner. One of four bitches pulled out for the final look and the only one owner handled and with a JH! Who doesn’t believe in fairy tales now!

Thank you to Tonya who helped remind me…if you want to conquer the world, you best have a Dragon! She was the best gift at the best time! Dragon isn’t done writing her story so stay tuned for new chapters in this grand fairy tale adventure
